WARMINSTER, PA —While some children in Bucks County were spending their day Back-to-School shopping, lounging around, or soaking up some sun on the last days of summer vacation, students in the Centennial School District were already hitting the books.

The school district started its 2023-2024 school year Thursday, the first in Bucks County to do so, said Nathan Ross, the district's communications and marketing specialist.

Schools Superintendent Dana Bedden said he made the rounds to visit all six schools on opening day Thursday.

While there may have been happy students, there were some unhappy parents who commented on a previous Patch story previewing the school year about late bus arrivals.

Bedden said he got a briefing Thursday from the district's transportation department supervisor.

"We did have some typical bus delays that our a part of the first week," Bedden said. "We of course like many school districts are short drivers but will continue to make adjustments to routes as our transportation team tries to provide the best possible service."

Bedden also said a big challenge Thursday was with the number of families registering for school late and the increased number of new families that are registering to attend school.
