COVID Outbreak Over: Ben Wilson Senior Center Reopening Wednesday

The Warminster center was shut for a week due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. Scheduled activities will resume Wednesday.

WARMINSTER, PA —The Ben Wilson Senior Activity Center is expected to resume scheduled activities Wednesday.

The center was closed for a week after officials reported a "significant number" of staff, volunteers, and members had tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials said that outbreak in cases prompted an immediate closure to the facility on 580 Delmont Avenue in Warminster.

Amanda Corey Gershanick, the center's nutrition services manager, told Patch that the outbreak happened after members returned from a trip out of the center.

She confirmed that the center would be back in business Wednesday.

The center had posted an urgent notice late Tuesday afternoon that it would be closed temporarily for a week until the health issues were resolved and the COVID crisis was cleared.

The Ben Wilson Senior Activity Center is the largest senior center in Bucks County with more than 1,200 members and guests a year.

The center is a non-profit organization supported by more than 100 volunteers, the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging, grants, and fundraising revenue through events and donations.

The center states on its Facebook page that it promotes the social welfare of persons aged 55 and better by "encouraging good fellowship and companionship among members through social activities, community improvement projects, and other activities conducive to the physical, mental, and social well-being of our members."
