Driver Was DUI In Fatal Rt. 611 Crash, Authorities Say

A 26-year-old man who authorities say cut in front of a tractor-trailer is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, the DA said.

Warrington, PA - Charges have been filed against a Montgomery County man who was allegedly drunk driving when he crashed on Rt. 611 last month, killing his friend.

Corey Adam Mitchell, 26, of Souderton will be charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI for the death of Erik Detweiler, 25, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Horsham police responded to the incident at 2:12 a.m. on Dec. 27 at the intersection of County Line Road and Easton Road in Warrington.

Mitchell was allegedly driving northbound on Easton Road when he entered the left turn lane to turn left onto County Line Road, investigators said. His headlights were turned off.

Even though the light was red, Mitchell tried to turn onto County Line, cutting in front of an incoming tractor-trailer, which was unable to stop in time, police said.

Mitchell’s blood alcohol concentration was .154%, the DA said. There was also marijuana in his system.

Detweiler, who had been living in California, was home visiting his family in Quakertown.

The DA expects Mitchell to turn himself in next week. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled at that time.
