Eagles Have Something To Prove With Super Bowl: Philly Sports Chatter

Snubs for Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni at the NFL Honors will add a few more chips on the Birds' shoulders going into Super Bowl Sunday.

WARMINSTER, PA —Sometimes you need a little fuel for the fire.

And the NFL provided that for the Philadelphia Eagles with its NFL Honors show Thursday night.

Not an Eagle was among the award winners for Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Coach of the Year.

It's really not surprising, though.

The City of Brotherly Love gets no love from the NFL. And that's all the fuel the Eagles will need when they face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII Sunday.

Now quarterback Jalen Hurts has another chip on his shoulder and something else to prove to the world since he finished as runner-up to Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes to NFL MVP.

Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni finished fifth for Coach of the Year, a travesty since his team dominated the NFL for most of the year and finished as the NFC's top seed.

But these snubs will be great for Sunday. These Eagles —just like the Birds who won the Super Bowl five years ago —love the "underdog" mentality.

You can just hear center Jason Kelce sneering right now. Hurts doesn't show much emotion, but you can bet that this fire is burning inside of him.

He has the chance Sunday to do what Ron Jaworski and Donovan McNabb couldn't do: win a Super Bowl.

Sirianni was already fired by Chiefs Coach Andy Reid. So just imagine how he feels going into the game with that and the coach snub? You wanna mess with Nick? I don't think so.

The Birds will be fired up. A lot is at stake besides the NFL Championship.

The team has a chance to beat Reid, their former coach. They have a chance to beat Mahomes, who has now grabbed the mantle from Tom Brady.

And they have a lot to prove that their season of domination shouldn't end suddenly Sunday in the desert.

These Birds battered opponents on both sides of the ball all year. And if they can contain Mahomes and keep his magic act of trick plays and innovation to a minimum then there's no reason the City of Brotherly Love won't be celebrating with a parade.

These are still hungry dogs. And now they have a little extra incentive. That's all they need to win Sunday.
