Bedden said the school district congratulates Mumin on his selection.

Mumin posted a letter on the Lower Merion School District website Monday that he had been nominated and would resign his post.

"Pending approval by our Board of School Directors, I expect to be sworn in as Acting Secretary of Education on Jan. 17," he said.
