ShopRite Of Warminster Presents $22,000 Donation for Lions Pride
Funds raised from donations during February & March 2020

Joe Cowhey, owner of Cowhey Family ShopRite, located at 942 West Street Road, Warminster, presented a donation of $22,000 to Warrington Lions Pride Park campaign committee representatives and Warrington Township officials on May 20 at the store. The funds were raised through a combination of donations made at the checkout counters and directly from the store itself, in February and March 2020, before the Coronavirus pandemic hit.
Joining Joe Cowhey for the check presentation was Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub, Warrington Township Manager Barry Luber, Warrington Township Supervisor Ruth Schemm, Lions Pride Park Campaign Committee President Jim Furlong, Committee members Gunjan Rastogi-Wilson and Emily Vonder Schmalz, and store executives and staff, including Kara Cowhey, Kelsey Cowhey, Store Director Ali Barakat, and Director of Operations Jeanne Costello.
The donated funds will be used to fund the construction and maintenance of Lions Pride Park, located in Warrington, Pa. Construction on the park began in the fall of 2019 and it is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
“This donation of $22,000 is made up of donations collected at the registers and matched by Cowhey Family ShopRite to benefit Lions Pride Park,” said Joe Cowhey, owner, Cowhey Family ShopRite of Warminster. “This is a perfect time to be thinking about tomorrow and the good days ahead – days when kids will be at parks enjoying themselves.”
Jim Furlong, chairman of the Lions Pride Park Campaign Committee remarked, “On behalf of the Warrington Lions Club, Warrington Township, and the future generations that will use the park, we are grateful and very thankful to the Cowhey Family.”
Lions Pride Park is a multi-generational park, designed with full accessibility as its main focus. It is expected to be a draw for families from Warrington, Warminster, Chalfont and surrounding communities. Once the site of the Twin Oaks Day Camp, the property is being converted into a state of the art, 17-acre recreational, educational and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant park for visitors of all ages and all abilities. The Warrington Township Lions Club, with support from numerous community partners, including Cowhey Family ShopRite, has raised almost $2 Million to date.
The park is currently under construction at Folly and Bradley Roads in Warrington Township and will include Kids Mountain, The Grove, and a walking trail around the park that connects to other Township walking paths. The park will enhance the local environment with features like a recently completed rain garden and a future pond-to-wetland conversion that will have value for biodiversity and educational purposes.
A smart phone app is under development that will allow differently-abled people, particularly those who are blind or visually impaired, to learn about features of the park and find their way through the site. Donations for the park are still being accepted online at ## 30 ##
