WARMINSTER, PA —"The library is like Veterans Stadium."

That was the description Township Supervisor Mark McKee gave the Warminster Township Free Library in describing the former home of the Philadelphia Phillies, which served its purpose for decades before its deterioration.

McKee and other township supervisors hope to transform the same building on Emma Lane into Citizens Bank Park with a project they hope to hit out of the park.

Township Supervisors unanimously awarded a $301,500 bid to T.E. Construction for library renovations at its meeting last Thursday.

With Library Director Peter Lehu in the audience, supervisors made the bid announcement for a project that consists of interior improvements spanning around 600 square feet.

"This is wonderful news," Lehu said.

Lehu said the project is expected to last four months with work possibly beginning in mid-September.

The work must be “substantially” completed within 120 calendar days after the contract begins, township officials said. The design firm tied to the contract is Doylestown-based Raphael Architects.

"It needs a makeover," Supervisors Vice Chairwoman Kathy Frescatore said.

Lehu said the work includes study rooms and an ADA restroom designed to be more friendly to senior citizens and families with children.

"We'll even have a better window for our lunch breaks," Lehu said.

Township supervisors said they are looking forward to the improvements.

"The library needs some renovations," Supervisors Chairman Kenneth Hayes said. "We have an excellent contractor."

Lehu said the renovations are especially necessary as the library continues to offer more family-friendly programs and events.

"We're getting more people into the library," he said. "People love our programs. We hear it all the time."

"We hear it all the time too," Frescatore said.
