WARMINSTER, PA —Carson Wentz basically blew it.

He was the franchise quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He had inked a long-term deal that acknowledged to the locker room that this was his team. This was the guy who would play for over a decade in green.

And that came after folk hero Nick Foles rallied the troops to a Super Bowl victory after Wentz went down with an injury while he was having an MVP season.

Wentz was still the man. Even though he was always injured, he still held the keys to the kingdom.

And now, after disastrous runs in Indianapolis and Washington, Wentz is once again looking for work.

Chances are, though, no team will give him a shot at being a starting quarterback in the NFL again. OK, maybe one team.

We all watched Wentz get clobbered by the Birds during the season. He may have been sacked like 30 times and lacked the escapism that once made him a Houdini for the Eagles before his injury.

This past week, the Washington Commanders released Wentz. And was anyone surprised?

We saw this coming like one of those slow-motion milk spills on a Bounty commercial. We basically laughed when Wentz was playing against the Eagles, knowing that the game would be another one to be placed in the win column.

So what went wrong for Wentz in Washington?

Well, injuries as always. But Coach Ron Rivera condemned Wentz earlier in the season for some of his play calls and costly interceptions. Then he benched him.

Wentz was benched by the Birds too. And that led to the start of Jalen Hurts' career. We all know where Hurts is now after taking the team to another Super Bowl. And we all know where Wentz is now.

The man doesn't want to be coached. He believes he has all the talent in the world and is a perennial Pro Bowler. But he's no Patrick Mahomes. He's not even Sam Howell, who the Commanders may take a close look at next season.

Wentz got Coach Doug Pederson fired. And didn't Pederson just win AFC Coach of the Year for his work with Trevor Lawrence? Dougie P. is still the quarterback whisperer.

Wentz then went to Indy and bombed. He lost a crucial game that guaranteed that the Colts would make the playoffs. Wentz got tossed out of town with the team owner cursing him out the whole time.

So now where does Wentz go?

Maybe, just maybe new Carolina Panthers Coach Frank Reich can rehabilitate Wentz and give him one more shot. But didn't Wentz cost Reich his job in Indianapolis?

Wentz just might have to suck it up and take a job as a backup. He can also hold a chart and stand on the sidelines in a hat. Just don't get him in a game. He's no Nick Foles.

Wentz maybe never recovered from his injury during the Birds' magical run to the Super Bowl. But, more importantly, he maybe never recovered from Foles stealing his thunder.

Wentz lost his mojo. And now the NFL is telling him he may have lost the league.
