17 Chesco Girls Join One Of The First All Girls Boy Scout Troops

A Chester County troop is among the first all-girls Boy Scout troops in the nation.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Seventeen girls in Chester County are among the first in the nation to join an all girls Boy Scout troop.

A recent induction ceremony took place at West Chester's Marshallton United Methodist Church on Feb. 1, the first day that girls were officially allowed to join the new organization called "Scouts BSA."

"Girl scouts was too easy for me," scout Lauren Leshko told 6ABC. "I needed a harder experience."

The girls are a part of Troop 19 of the Chester County Council. They joined other all-girls troops from around the country in being among the first to ever be inducted into the Boy Scouts.

The moment had been eagerly anticipated by the girls since BSA first announced they would eventually accept girls two years ago.

During the ceremony, girls were called up individually to receive a membership card and other tokens.

Notably, girls will now have the opportunity to not only participate in all the same events and adventures as boys, but can compete for badges and even earn the ultimate Boy Scout rank: Eagle Scout.
