CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A Chester County man is now considered an "armed career criminal" after a repeat conviction on firearms charges.

Dayvon Nicole Brown, 25, of Coatesville, now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years behind bars.

That's due to the Armed Career Criminal Act, a federal law which stipulates increased mandatory penalties for criminals who are convicted of certain crimes three or more times.

"My office remains committed to working with local police departments to clear the streets of Chester County, and all counties in our district, of firearms in the hands of convicted felons," U.S. Attorney William McSwain said in a statement.

Brown was most recently arrested back on May 16, 2018 in Coatesville.

Police there stopped him because his headlights were out, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Brown was asked to step out of the car, and police located a 9mm handgun on the floor of the back seat, along with seven live rounds of ammunition.

As a convicted felon, Brown was not legally permitted to carry the weapon.

Sentencing is forthcoming.
