Chester Co. Man Strangled 91-Year-Old In Retirement Home: Cops

A man has been charged with attempted murder after going into a local nursing home and strangling a 91-year-old, police said.

EAST GOSHEN, PA — A man has been charged with attempted murder after breaking into a local nursing home and strangling a 91-year-old, police said. The victim survived and the man has been arrested.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at around 9:44 a.m. at Wellington at Hershey's Mill, a retirement community on Boot Road in East Goshen.

Police said Robert Kaiser, 62, of West Chester, went into the residence of a family member inside the home and began to strangle the victim.

It's not yet clear what motivated the assault, and the precise relationship between Kaiser and the victim was not clarified by police. Patch has reached out to authorities for further details on the incident.

Authorities said that employees at the nursing home helped keep the victim safe following the assault.

A Wellington at Hershey's Mill spokesperson said the community has never had an incident like this.

"This morning, a private domestic dispute amongst family members occurred at our community, which led to charges and an arrest," the community said in a prepared statement. "We realize the holidays can be a stressful time for many people and hope that everyone involved is able to heal from this incident."

Kaiser was taken into custody shortly thereafter. He was arraigned before Judge Taraglio, bail was denied, and he was taken to Chester County Prison.

In addition to attempted murder, Kaiser has been charged with aggravated assault and strangulation.

The conditon of the victim is not known at this time.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
