West Chester Gets $688K From State To Improve Intersections

The grant will allow West Chester to make vast improvements to critical intersections.

WEST CHESTER, PA — The borough of West Chester was granted $688,000 for key improvements at local intersections, the state announced.

The money will be used to improve modernize 23 traffic signals around the borough, including installing radio communications, according to Gov. Wolf's Office.

The signals will be connected to the PennDOT District 6 Regional Traffic Management Center via a trunk fiber connection along US Route 202, officials said.

The project is one of three in Chester County and one of 70 across Pennsylvania that was approved Thursday by the state. Nine projects in nearby Montgomery County were also approved.

"This is the fourth round of funding disbursed to support increased safety and mobility across more Pennsylvania towns," Gov. Wolf said in a statement.

Funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's "Green Light-Go" program, grants are provided as reimbursement to municipalities for updates to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals.

Grant funding through the Green Light – Go Program may be utilized for a range of operational improvements including LED technology, traffic signal retiming, and related issues.
