West Chester Henderson Girls Among 62 Local HS Students Who Receive 'White Coat'
Dozens of girls from around the area were recently honored at a "white coat" ceremony for their achievements in a medicine program.
During a special white coat ceremony on June 24, high school girls from Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties were recognized for their commitment to a new healthcare leadership program sponsored by The Clinic.
The program is designed to help high school girls achieve leadership roles in medicine and healthcare as well as learn more about providing community outreach.
At the Girls in Medicine event, the students will receive their white lab coats, which signify the beginning of their formal clinical and educational training, organizers said.

Representatives from Phoenixville Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Chester County Medical Society, Villanova University, Immaculata University, and the Chester/Delaware County Medical Society will be on hand to demonstrate their support for the students, according to program officials.
The girls are now preparing for hands-on training courses, which will begin this summer.
Representatives from the McLean Contributionship—which provided a $10,000 grant to the program—will also be in attendance, officials said.

The Girls In Medicine program encouraged highly motivated and talented high school girls interested in pre-medicine and healthcare careers to apply for this rigorous one-year enrichment program. Students in the program have the opportunity to learn from top medical leaders in the area, study at Phoenixville and Paoli Hospitals for one-week, gain medical research and presentation skills, achieve CPR/First Aid Certifications, receive volunteer and leadership experience, and obtain leadership experience as Health Ambassadors, the program said.
The program additionally aims to help build the self-confidence of young women to discover their full potential in healthcare and medical fields, and provide community outreach in education and prevention, according to the organization.
The Girls in Medicine program is presented by The Clinic, a non-profit medical center in Phoenixville established by two women in 2002 to help Chester and Montgomery County residents who do not have adequate access to healthcare services due to lack of medical insurance.
