Where Has all the Water Gone? Water Scarcity in a Water-Rich Region

Free Lecture by aquatic biologist Steve Golladay from the Jones Ecological Research Center on July 6!

Wednesday, July 6!

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for tours and light refreshments.
Lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. and, following Q&As, it concludes by 8:00 p.m.

Aquatic biologist Steve Golladay from the Jones Ecological Research Center in Georgia will discuss how climate trends affect ecological processes and aquatic communities, the effects that people and their activities have on our freshwater systems, and the importance of aquatic invertebrates and freshwater mussels to the health of our streams.

The lower Flint River in Georgia, where most of Golladay’s work is based, is home to the highest diversity of fish in any Gulf Coast drainage east of the Mississippi and has many other rare species, such as the Halloween darter and five federally protected mussel species.

This area is also the epicenter of a 20+ year water dispute between Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. It is located centrally in the historic range of the longleaf pine forest, one of the most imperiled forests in North America.

Event is FREE and open to the public. For more information, call 610-268-2153, ext. 288 or email jprovinski@stroudcenter.org.

RSVP is optional but appreciated! http://www.stroudcenter.org/Events/#golladay
