$39K Paid In Grandson Call Scam In Lower Makefield Twp.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department has released its blotter of criminal incidents for last week.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —A grandparent call scam cost a resident nearly $40,000 and is under investigation. That was one of the criminal incidents reported by the Lower Makefield Township Police Department in its blotter released late last week.

IDENTITY THEFT —300 block of Tall Meadow Lane, reported at 3:52 p.m. The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) opened two loans in their name with their identification in November.

RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY ARREST —Taylorsville Road and Woodside Road, reported at 11:10 a.m. Police on patrol received a hit from a License Plate Reader for a stolen license plate. The 32-year-old male driver from Philadelphia was taken into police custody.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD —Unit block of Highland Drive, reported at 12:50 p.m. The complainant reported an unauthorized use of their credit card for $443.77.

Jan. 13

RETAIL THEFT —1500 block of Big Oak Road at Yardley Eye Care, reported at 1:56 p.m. The complainant reported that sometime between 12:50 p.m. and 1:10 p.m., two unknown person(s)
entered the store and removed several pairs of glasses valued at $2,000 without paying.

FRAUD —500 block of Cedar Hollow Drive, reported at 4 p.m. The complainant reported receiving a call on Jan. 11 from someone claiming to be their grandson, saying they got arrested for a DUI and needed bail money. The victim was instructed to withdraw $11,750 and provide it to an unknown man who came to their residence. They received another phone call shortly after the money was retrieved saying they needed an additional $17,250. The victim again provided the cash to an unknown man who came to the residence. On Jan. 13, when the victim called to inquire about the status of their “grandson,” they were advised more money was needed. An investigation is ongoing.

Jan. 12

FRAUD —Unit block of Crown Terrace, reported at 1:10 p.m. The complainant reported receiving
a text from someone claiming to be their boss, instructing them to buy $2,000 worth of gift cards and provide them with the information.

RETAIL THEFT:

  • 100 block of Oxford Valley Road at CVS, reported at 2:35 p.m. The store manager reported that an unknown man removed $600 of Olaplex hair products without paying.
  • 900 block of Stony Hill Road at CVS, reported at 3:53 p.m. The store manager reported that on Jan. 11, an unknown man entered the store and removed $687.49 worth of protein supplements without paying.

RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY ARREST —700 block of River Road, reported at 5:09 p.m. Police on patrol received a hit from a License Plate Reader for a stolen vehicle. A 57-year-old male driver from Trenton, N.J., was taken into police custody.
