Cadets Wanted For Lower Makefield Police Explorers Unit

Since 1971, the program provides teens and young adults with the opportunity to learn about law enforcement.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —The Lower Township Police Department is seeking some new explorers.

The Lower Makefield Township Police Explorer Unit provides children and young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 the opportunity to learn firsthand the duties of a police officer.

Founded in 1971 and affiliated with the Washington Crossing Council of The Boy Scouts of America, the Lower Makefield Explorers Program provides teens and young adults the opportunity to learn first-hand about the law enforcement profession while at the same time serving the community.

The Police Explorers (Cadets) often serve as the eyes and ears for police, as well as directing traffic at township functions, parades, sporting events & festivals. The Explorers meet with police twice each month to receive training in topics like the subjects taught at a traditional police academy.

Cadets who successfully complete one year in the Lower Makefield Police Explorers program are eligible to receive six college credits toward an Associate’s degree from Bucks County Community College at no cost to the student.
