YARDLEY, PA —It's a Halloween double billing this weekend in the borough.

The Yardley Borough Parks and Recreation Department's annual Halloween Costume Parade takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday with the launch at Borough Hall on 56 S. Main St. and the finish at Buttonwood Park for treats, crafts, and storytime. The rain date is Sunday.

This year's Canal-O-Ween event sponsored by Experience Yardley starts right after the Carve-O-Thon, which will be held at noon on Sunday, Oct. 29.

More than 500 pumpkins provided by the Yardley Borough Parks and Recreation —the event's headline sponsor —will be carved, said Experience Yardley President Elizabeth Young.

"Did you know that Jack-o-Lanterns aren’t just pumpkins?" Young said. "They can be made out of any root vegetable or gourd. Whatever they’re made of, the creepy designs are used to ward off evil spirits, stemming from an ancient Celtic tradition."

There are also Canal-O-Ween T-shirts for sale at the Commonplace Reader bookstore for $20 each or two for $30.

Anyone who can't make the Carve-O-Thon can participate in the Canal-O-Ween Stroll, which will take place from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4.

Located on North Edgewater Avenue along the historic Delaware Canal in the Rivermawr neighborhood, the stroll lets residents and visitors safely enjoy fall’s beauty within the natural, car-free setting of the canal towpath between Fuld Avenue and Afton Avenue.

Free parking is available on the corner of Fuld and Morgan Avenues. Flashlights are encouraged due to limited street lighting.
