Council To Interview Candidates For Yardley Vacancy Tuesday

YARDLEY, PA —Yardley Borough Council will interview candidates for its vacancy at its meeting Tuesday night.

The vacancy is to fill the seat of Councilman Matt Ross, who resigned at the end of 2022, on the seven-member board.

The council now consists of President Caroline Thompson, Kim Segal-Morris, Matt Curtin, John McCann, David Appelbaum, and Don Carlson.

In early September, Appelbaum and Carlson filled the vacancies of David Bria and Chris Campellone, who resigned because they were moving out of town.

The size of the council has been called into question when a resident filed a petition to have the council reduced from seven to five members due to the borough's size. That measure, which became a Nov. 8 ballot question, was defeated by voters.

Yardley Borough is a municipality of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The governing body is the seven-person Borough Council. Each Council Member is elected for a four-year term.

The Borough operates under the "Borough Code," local ordinances, and the Council-Manager form of organization.

Council members serve on a part-time basis.

They enact Ordinances and Resolutions, issue Proclamations, approve land development plans and other land use applications, approve annual budgets and all expenditures, levy taxes, affirm the hiring and termination of Borough employees, make appointments to advisory boards, committees, commissions, and task forces which serve the Borough.

Council elects its President, and Vice President, and appoints the Borough Secretary and Borough Treasurer.
