The chief said that power lines came down on the vehicle as a result of the crash.
He said power affects neighboring townships, but power was restored rather quickly to the affected intersections.
With the wires live and resting on the vehicle, Police Officer Brendan Montemarano, LMTPD Highway Patrol, and other officers were assessing the medical needs of the occupants and the safety of the scene by keeping others away from the live wires, police said.
While evaluating one of the vehicle’s occupants, the transformer arched, and Montemarano was shocked.
He was removed from the scene and taken to the Yardley Makefield Rescue Squad to be assessed.
His vitals were normal and remained that way, police said.
All accident injuries were serious, however, not life-threatening, police said.
Various rescue units responded and transported patients to area hospitals. They included the Yardley Makefield Fire Company, Yardley Makefield Rescue Squad along with the Penndel Middletown Rescue Squad.
Deputy Fire Chief Tim Chamberlain was on the scene within minutes and oversaw the extrication of the vehicle’s occupants.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident should contact Police Officer Brendan Montemarano at 215-493-4055.
