Delaware River Nearing Flood Levels In Lower Bucks County

The National Weather Service said heavy rainfall Tuesday was expected to push the Delaware River into flood levels on Wednesday.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —It's a tale of two places for the Delaware River.

While heavy rains pushed the river to near flood levels around Yardley, it tipped its scales downstream around Bristol Borough.

In Philadelphia, the Delaware River reached a record-high Wednesday, cresting at 10.62 feet, according to the National Weather Service. the prior record was set in 2012.

The National Weather Service at Mount Holly said the Delaware River at Trenton reached 16.03 feet, near "take action" flood levels of 17 feet at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service.

The level caused flooding in the Bristol Wharf overnight.

Debris was reported around the Mill Street parking lot in Bristol due to high winds.

The Delaware River Water Basin is monitoring the recent rainfall event and how it is impacting the Delaware River Basin concerning flooding.

"Moderate,"Minor," or "Action" flood level stages are currently occurring or is forecasted at several stream gauges within the Basin, including those on tributaries, the non-tidal mainstem, or tidal locations, said Kate Schmidt, communications specialist for the Delaware River Basin Commission.

In the Basin, no Major Flooding is expected for any forecast point; however, there are several locations where it already occurred or nearly occurred: the Neshaminy Creek in Langhorne, the East Branch Brandywine Creek below Downingtown, and the following tidal locations: Washington St. in Philadelphia, Pa.; Bridesburg, Pa.; Burlington, N.J.; and Newbold Island, Pa.

Another storm event with 1-1.5 inches of precipitation is forecasted for Friday evening into Saturday. The DRBC will be monitoring that event and will provide any updates as necessary.
