YARDLEY, PA — A man driving under the influence of drugs fought with police officers in Yardley after driving onto an embankment and hitting a stop sign, according to police.

At 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, a Yardley officer was sent to South Main Street and Reading Avenue to investigate an accident. According to police, the officer arrived to find a heavily damaged car on the SEPTA station embankment.

There was a 25-year-old man from Lower Makefield in the car, police said. A photo of the incident shared by police showed the vehicle up the embankment, having knocked over a stop sign.

Police said the officer developed probable cause to believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was arrested, with the help of Lower Makefield Township Police —at which time police say he resisted and physically assaulted the officer.

Police searched his vehicle and found marijuana, they said.

The man was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, assault and resisting arrest.
