YARDLEY, PA —The Mary Yardley Bridge and trail leading to the North Main Street sidewalk was reopened Friday after being temporarily closed for minor maintenance Thursday.

Councilman Jared Stump said the work was completed early Thursday, meaning the bridge didn't need to be closed on Friday.

During this time, both the bridge and towpath will be closed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The work includes the painting of a ramp, as borough officials complete a "punch list" to close out the long-time construction project.

The Mary Yardley Bridge opened earlier this year to the public.

After months of delays and endless discussion by borough officials, the deteriorated footbridge over the Delaware Canal was replaced.

Borough officials have expressed frustration over getting the bridge replaced over the years, a process that has taken decades.

"We can't seem to get the bridge installed," Council Vice President Uri Feiner said in September, adding that the borough had DCNR right-of-way that was created in 1987 and ended in May 2022, requiring the borough in March to extend it.
