Chlorine Treatment Change In Yardley, Lower Makefield Twp. Water

Pennsylvania American Water Co. said it is temporarily changing its disinfection treatment process, starting Monday.

YARDLEY, PA —Starting Monday, your water may taste and smell a little different.

The Pennsylvania American Water Co. —which serves Lower Makefield Township and Yardley Borough —has announced that it is temporarily changing its disinfection treatment process from a chloramine (combined) residual to free chlorine residual.

Customers may notice a change in the taste and smell of chlorine in the water as a result of the change.

PAWC said the changes are temporary while system maintenance is completed.

The free chlorine residual treatment change will begin Monday and transition back to a chloramine residual on Monday, Oct. 23.

PAWC will also start flushing fire hydrants on Monday. That process is expected to run through Nov. 1.

Residents should anticipate discolored water during flushing. PAWC said that is normal and will only be temporary until system maintenance is completed.Click here for more details on when and where flushing will occur in the system.

PAWC representatives will also be in the Lower Makefield-Yardley area starting Monday.

They will be going door-to-door to assess the type of material used for water service lines.

All Pennsylvania American Water representatives will carry official company photo I.D. badges and wear logoed, high-visibility vests.
