'Musty' Taste, Odor Reported In Yardley Area Drinking Water

Pennsylvania American Water said it has received recent complaints about "earthy" tasting and smelling water. Find out why.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —Pennsylvania American Water is addressing some customers in its Yardley area system after recent complaints about their drinking water.

Some customers have reported a “musty” or “earthy” taste and/or odor in their drinking water.

The water company said the aesthetic issue is not harmful and is the result of hot, dry weather conditions impacting source water quality in the Delaware River.

Pennsylvania American Water said it has enhanced the water treatment with activated carbon to remove compounds that contribute to this harmless taste and odor issue.

"Again, there is no reason for concern," the water company said. "We are hopeful that the treatment changes and potential rainfall will positively impact our source water conditions and improve the taste and odor of the water."

Pennsylvania American Water said it will continue to monitor Delaware River levels and conditions.

The water company said that there are no conservation orders or advisories in place at this time, but that customers should always use water wisely.
