YARDLEY, PA —Work on Phase II of the North Main Street Sidewalks Project, hibernated for the winter.

But now that temperatures are warming up, PennDOT has told the borough that the sidewalk improvements can resume once again after work was delayed by winter's arrival.

Engineer Patrick Foley told Borough Council at last week's meeting that the contractor, GB Construction, was in the process of coordinating the project and getting new asphalt that will be put down.

Foley said the contractor has scheduled work to resume on Monday, April 17.

The contractor is expected to complete the work in two weeks with the project targeted to be finished in early May. The cleanup of Fitzgerald Field is also covered in the construction.

Phase II has suffered several starts and stops.

Phase II was slated to begin the first week of November, but then its start didn't happen until the following week. It was then halted due to a dispute with a resident before the project proceeded again, officials said. And then the delay for winter.

The start of Phase III is uncertain.

In early December, the borough applied for a $100,000 PennDOT grant that comes with a borough match of $30,000.

But Foley told the council that the grant is still outstanding and he wasn't sure when PennDOT would make a decision.
