Rite Aid Closing Location In Lower Makefield Township

The Rite Aid on Heacock Road, one of two in Lower Makefield Township, is expected to close in the middle of October.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —The township will be losing one of its Rite Aids.

A Rite Aid employee said Tuesday that the store on 657 Heacock Rd. next to McCaffrey's is expected to close on Oct. 12 or 13, but that prescriptions will be handled in the future by the Rite Aid location on Stony Hill Road next to the Giant Food Store.

The pharmaceutical retailer has 464 stores in Pennsylvania, including Bucks County locations in Warminster, Doylestown, Fairless Hills, Morrisville, Levittown, Trevose, Warrington, Newtown, and Langhorne.

A Bristol location closed earlier this month.

The pharmacy chain is planning to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to address more than 1,000 state and federal lawsuits it faces for allegedly contributing to the opioid epidemic, according to the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.

Rite Aid has not publicly addressed the bankruptcy filing reports, and sources with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg the company is still finalizing its plans.

The filing is expected to include the closure of more than 400 of its more than 2,200 stores, Yahoo Finance reported.

Patch has reached out to the company for any impending closures in the state.

Rite Aid has more than 2,200 pharmacies in 17 states.
