Stolen Halloween Candy, $13K Phone Scam Top Lower Makefield Crimes

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department has released its blotter of criminal incidents for the past week.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —A phone cam cost a resident $13,500. Meanwhile, a resident was tackled and had their bag of Halloween candy stolen.

Those were among the criminal incidents released Friday by the Lower Makefield Township Police Department.

Nov. 1

FRAUD —1200 block Yale Drive, reported at 11:43 p.m. The complainant reported receiving a phone call from who they believed to be their son stating they needed bail money. They were instructed to withdraw $13,500 in cash and provide it to an “attorney” who met them at their residence. After handing the money over to an unknown woman, the victim contacted their son, who was safe and not in jail.

Oct. 31

FRAUD —1300 block of Heller Drive, reported at 3:33 p.m. The complainant reported an unknown
person(s) intercepted a mailed check, altered it, and cashed it.

THEFT —100 block of Pine Cone Drive, reported at 3:32 p.m. The complainant reported the theft of
$550 from the residence over several weeks. The investigation is ongoing.

ATTEMPTED THEFT & COUNTERFEITING —100 block of Oxford Valley Road at CVS, reported at 7:29 p.m. The store manager reported an unknown man and woman entered the store with three children and purchased a PayPal gift card for $470. After receiving the card, the woman claimed she paid $700, not $470. The couple also attempted to make another purchase with a counterfeit $100 bill.

ROBBERY —200 block of Hickory Road, reported at 7:09 p.m. The complainant reported while
their child was trick-or-treating, they were tackled to the ground and had their candy bag
pried out of their hands by an unknown adult man. The investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 30

THEFTS:
  • 1500 block of Polo Run Drive, reported at 10:52 a.m. The complainant reported sometime overnight, an unknown person(s) stole their bicycle from outside the residence.
  • 1000 block of University Drive, reported at 8:44 a.m. The complainant reported an unknown person(s) intercepted a mailed check, altered it, and cashed it.

Oct. 28

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY —1000 block of University Drive, reported at 12:03 a.m. The complainant reported unknown person(s) cut a screen out of the kitchen window and attempted to make entry. No entry was made and nothing was reported missing at this time.

FRAUD —8900 block of Spruce Mill Drive, reported at 1:56 p.m. The complainant reported an unknown person(s) opened a credit card in their name.

Oct. 27

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT —300 block of Robin Hood Drive, reported at 8:42 a.m. The complainant reported unknown person(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and used the key fob to drive the vehicle away. Video captured on Ring camera. The investigation is ongoing.

FUGITIVE OF JUSTICE ARREST —Route 1 and Oxford Valley Road, reported at 1:24 p.m. Police on patrol received an LPR hit for a person wanted for aggravated arson out of Trenton, N.J. A felony car stop was made and the 30-year-old man from Hamilton, N.J., was taken into police custody. He was arraigned by District Justice Kronnagel and sent to BCCF in lieu of $150,000 with 10 percent bail.

FRAUD — 200 block of Zachary Way, reported at 2:50 p.m. The complainant reported hiring a
contractor and paying a deposit of $1,800, but the work still has not been completed. The investigation is ongoing.
