Extreme Heat Endangering Rhode Island: National Weather Service

The dangerously hot conditions start Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Extreme heat will pose a danger to Rhode Island this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The dangerously hot conditions start Wednesday morning with heat index values of up to 111 possible, the National Weather Service warned in an extreme heat watch.

"Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," the National Weather Service cautioned.

The extreme heat watch remains in effect until Fridau evening.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the National Weather Service advised, adding, "Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."

Temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees Thursday as the sun beats down and winds will top out at 7 mph.
