The state recommended closing down the swim areas of three Rhode Island beaches.

The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended shutting down the swim areas of City Park Beach in Warwick, Third Beach in Middletown and Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth due to high bacteria counts.

The department of health recommended the closures due to high bacteria counts.

The department made the announcement regarding all three beaches Wednesday.

"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said. "The status of a beach may change as new data becomes available."
