A recent study revealed which states spend the most time talking about ghosts and hauntings.
The study conducted by ecommerce growth agency Interconnections Media "compared states based on Reddit mentions of hauntings, ghosts and paranormal activity relative to population," according to a media release.
"Local ghost stories can now travel far beyond the communities where they started," Abhinav Singh, a spokesperson for Interconnections Media, said in the release.
"Reddit allows people to add their own memories, experiences and local knowledge to those stories, which can give regional folklore a much larger audience than it would once have had," Singh said.
The researchers at Interconnections Media determined that residents of Kentucky made the most references to ghosts and paranormal activity on Reddit in relation to its population.
Kentucky was followed by Virginia, Arkansas, South Dakota and Missouri.
Rhode Island ranked 23rd on the list.
The state making the smallest amount of ghostly Reddit references was North Carolina, followed by Illinois, Tennessee, Maryland and California.
Interconnections Media stressed that the Reddit ghost talk analysis was not in any way an indication that there were actually any ghosts in a particular state.
"The ranking reflects the amount of paranormal discussion associated with each state on Reddit and does not establish whether any location is actually haunted," the release said.
