This Restaurant Named 'Most Iconic Diner' In Rhode Island By Business Insider

A Pawtucket restaurant was included among Business Insider's recent list of iconic diners in each state.

According to the list, The Most Iconic Diner In Every State, chrome stools and menus filled with classic comfort foods have made diners quintessentially American.

"From decades-old landmarks ... to no-frills lunch counters that have quietly become cultural icons in their respective towns, these are the most iconic diners in every state," according to Business Insider.

For Rhode Island, the list names the Modern Diner in Pawtucket as the state's most iconic eatery.

Business Insider notes the Modern Diner is "one of the most iconic breakfast spots in America's smallest state."

"One of the oldest surviving diners of its kind, the Pawtucket restaurant is celebrated for its classic breakfasts and for its architectural significance as the first diner to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places," Business Insider reports.

According to the restaurant's website, the Modern Diner is "known for both its diner classics and its variety of ever-changing breakfast specials."

"Diners originated in Providence with horse-drawn canteen created by Walter Scott in 1872 to sell pies, coffee and light food to people who worked at night when restaurants were closed. Diners are an All American invention," according to the website. "They are the precursors of the all-pervasive fast-food outlets today. Simple inexpensive fare and quick service have always been their hallmarks."

The restaurant's Facebook page notes that it is family-owned.

Located at 364 East Ave., the Modern Diner is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.
