Police Found Child Porn On Man's Phone During Probe Of Deadly Road Rage Crash: Cops
The man cut a woman off in traffic and braked, sending her careening into a tree, police said.
PROVIDENCE, RI — Detectives found child pornography on a Providence man's phone while investigating him in connection with a deadly road rage crash, police said.
Juan Archila, 43, remains free while facing charges of driving so as to endanger, resulting in death, and possession of child pornography in connection with the November crash that claimed the life of 23-year-old Casey Bassignani.
In reports released Friday by the Rhode Island State Police, a detective said a video of a "fully nude adult female" performing sex acts on a "prepubescent male" was extracted from Archila's Samsung cellular device during the investigation of the crash.

The state police then obtained a search warrant for Archila's Mattie Street home, according to the report.

After Archila was informed the state police were searching for child pornography, he told a lieutenant, "I'm wondering if this is because that, there's a lot, there's a lot of people add me to groups and stuff and I don't know if that might be, I don't know. Like, I've been added to groups. Chat groups all the time on WhatsApp, and then I leave them or delete them and they send stuff, I don't know. Like I said I don't know," the report said.
A "review of video footage, witness statements, and investigatory steps" revealed that Bassignani cut in front of the GMC Yukon driven by Archila on Interstate 295 in Cranston, according to the report.
The Archila then overtook Bassignani's Honda Accord and cut it off, the report said.

"Witnesses stated the Yukon deliberately applied brakes in front of Accord, causing Bassignani to take evasive action and lose control of the Accord," the report said.
The Accord careened into the median, crashed into a tree and flipped onto its passenger side, entrapping Bassignani, according to the report.

Bassignani was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where she was pronounced deceased, the report said.
Archila agreed to a statement to police and "admitted that he engaged in a road rage type incident with a sedan while traveling on Route 295 South in which he overtook a vehicle on the right, moved back into the second lane of travel, and then braked."
Archila was scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26 for both the deadly crash and child pornography cases.
