Barrington Holding Class For Museum Volunteers

The Barrington Preservation Society is holding a new educational program for anyone interested in volunteering with the museum.

BARRINGTON, RI — The Barrington Preservation Society is holding classes for those interested in volunteering with the museum. Members of the museum staff and its trustees will offer information and guidance in the classes for those interested in helping out the museum and learning more about Barrington's history.

The first classes take place over three weeks on Jan. 15, 22 and 29.

The first classes on Jan. 15 include a 9:30 a.m. class titled Our Society's Mission under the direction of Stephen Venuti, the incoming BPS president. Nat Taylor, the outgoing BPS president, will conduct a 10:30 class on The Archives of Historic Barrington.

On Jan. 22, Barbara Hail, trustee and museum committee chair, will conduct a class on Collection Management at 9:30, followed by Maria Bruce, a BPS trustee and museum staffer, who will conduct Guiding Visitors Through the Exhibits.

On Jan. 29, Julia Califano, a BPS trustee and museum staffer, will conduct Techniques of Exhibition Mounting at 9:30, followed by Taylor's The Historic House Plaquing Program.

Those who attend the classes should then be qualified to take shifts as docents during museum open hours. The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. New docents will begin with another staff member and then move on to solo shifts.
