Blue Angels Pay Barrington Boy a Special Hospital Visit

With aspirations of becoming a theoretical physicist, Josh Guertler of Barrington got a chance to meet a member of the Blue Angels at the hospital recently.

On Friday, May 16, patients at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, including young Josh Guertler of Barrington, received the treat of a lifetime when Blue Angels pilots visited the hospital in full aviation gear to help lift the spirits of children dealing with challenging medical conditions. The visit was in advance of The Blue Angels’ performance at the Rhode Island Air Show.

“Visits like this are the best part of my job,” said Mark DeBuse, MD, Lt. Commander, U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon and Blue Angels pilot. “It’s an honor to have an opportunity to interact with children who don’t feel well and do our small part to brighten their day and put a smile on their faces.”

While The Blue Angels are best known as the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron for their impressive aerial stunts and flying acrobatics, the highly-trained servicemen are extremely active in the community—visiting more than 50,000 young people in hospitals and schools each year. As performers, the prestigious group has flown for more than 260 million spectators since 1946.
