Board Deals With Condos, Subdivision

The Barrington Planning Board to hold public hearings on Nockum Hill condos and Lavin's Marina housing subdivision..

Two housing developments go before the Barrington Planning Board tonight in the Council Chamber in Town Hall.

The 7 pm meeting could get a large turnout, especially because one of the housing projects is a condominium development proposed at Nockum Hill next to the Doug Rayner Wildlife Sanctuary.

The condo development, “The Residences at the Preserve,” will be considered first at a “public informational meeting,” according to the posted agenda. See a Patch story on the development. The informational meeting was rescheduled from the May meeting.

The plan calls for 27 residential units on 6.6 acres of land off of George Street adjacent to the wildlife preserve at Nockum Hill. At least 25 percent of the units would qualify as affordable housing.

The land has been owned by North End Holdings of Wakefield, RI, operated by Ron Chofay, for several years. It sits on the site of a former equestrian center.

The preliminary subdivision of Lavin’s Marina in West Barrington gets a continued public hearing from the May meeting. See the Patch story on the subdivision.

The subdivision includes 10 homes in an L-shaped configuration with frontage on both Narragansett and Woodbine avenues. Two of the homes qualify as affordable housing.

“It’s the first inclusionary project in Barrington,” said Town Planner Phil Hervey, meaning that 20 percent of the project must be affordable houses.

The developer of the marina project is Ruggiero Properties, owned by Joseph Ruggiero of Barrington, who bought the marina in 2010.
