Local Attorney Picked For Magistrate Judge

Patricia A. Sullivan of Barrington is named a federal magistrate judge.

A Barrington attorney who has specialized in antitrust litigation has been named a federal magistrate judge in Rhode Island.

Patricia A. Sullivan, 61, a partner with Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP in Providence, was selected by the judges of U.S. District Court, according to a story in the Providence Journal. She will replace retiring U.S. Magistrate Judge David L. Martin on Sept. 30.

Sullivan was among five candidates for the post, according to the Providence Journal. In announcing her appointment, David A. DiMarzio, clerk of the court, said that Sullivan’s “experience and reputation for integrity will make her a welcome addition to this court.” She will be the first woman to serve as a federal magistrate judge in Rhode Island.

Sullivan said: "I am humbled. I do feel humbled. I've always felt it would be the ideal career capper." Her husband, Jonathan Barnes, is a volunteer girls' running coach at the high school.
