Mangia Pizzeria to Open Next Week

Mangia Neapolitan Pizzeria got its victualing license last Monday night. You can expect it to open early next week. Finally.

Owner Jon McGloin and store manager Steve Brown-Boone said they are shooting for a Monday opening. But it could be a little later.

“We’ve been trying to open since late October,” said McGloin with a smile, who has invested more than $250,000 in the business at 296 County Road across the street from Town Hall. “It’ll definitely be next week.” 

The store is part of the Brookline, Mass., based chain of Mangia Neapolitan Pizzeria restaurants. It’s the first one in Rhode Island. 

McGloin and his wife, Sherry, are hardly strangers to Barrington, though. Her brother lives in Barrington. Their children attend Barrington Christian Academy. She is a Riverside native.

“We’re really excited to be in the community,” said McGloin, who will employ a staff of Barrington High School kids along with his store manager and the assistant manager, Josh Dimauro.

Brown-Boone also is no stranger to Rhode Island. He lives in Woonsocket and has worked or managed several Papa Gino pizza stores, including one in Woonsocket.

Mangia’s pizza is hardly your typical pizza, said McGloin, who gushes about the product.

It’s much of the reason he decided to go with Mangia when he started to look for another business opportunity to go along with the Turf Tech landscaping company he operates out of Scituate, RI. 

“It’s a 90-percent whole-wheat crust,” he said. “And they are baked on granite stones at a high heat, which makes them a true Neapolitan pizza.”

"And much healthier," said his wife.

The restaurant also will serve calzones, sandwiches, wraps, wings, pasta dishes, soups and salads. It will brew Seattle’s Best coffee starting at 6 am with bagels and yogurt, she said, and it will offer Del’s lemonade.

There is seating for 14 with two plasma TVs on the walls.
