A Barrington business has been recognized for its philanthropy.

Performance Physical Therapy, which operates one of its seven clinics on Maple Avenue, has received the 2012 Philanthropic Business of the Year Award from the American Fundraising Professionals association.

“The motto at Performance Physical Therapy is to simply provide 'care at its best',” said Michelle Collie, the owner of Performance Therapy.

She accepted the award on behalf of the team at an AFP awards dinner.

“What truly impresses me about our team is how every individual has embodied the ‘care at its best’ motto at every level,” she said. “Care at its best goes beyond the clinic and treatment provided; it includes providing the best care to our communities by promoting health, prevention, literacy, safety and wellness for all, inclusive of those less fortunate.”

“Every individual at Performance participates in philanthropic activities in some way and it has been an inspiration to see our team become closer as a result,” she said.

Performance Physical Therapy was nominated for the award by Shoulder to Shoulder, Inc. It received support from organizations that included the Children’s Museum, Reach Out and Read, Girls on the Run, Gloria Gemma, Run for Freedom, RISE, K-Rob, and Make-a-Wish, according to the company.

Performance Physical Therapy also is involved with the Michael H. Flanagan Foundation -- a Barrington nonprofit devoted to helping patients and families battling Leukemia.

Performance Physical Therapy also has offices in Pawtucket, Riverside, Providence, East Providence, North Providence, and Smithfield. It specializes in the spine, orthopedics, sports injuries and post-surgical conditions.

The company also has specialty programs in women’s health, occupational health, hand therapy including splinting, pediatrics, athletic training, oncology, arthritis, geriatrics, balance disorders, aquatics, fitness and prevention programs, according to the firm.
