Reminder: Meeting on Rivers Tonight
Barrington/Warren Rep. Jan Malik has scheduled a meeting in the library for DEM officials to explain what's going on with the Barrington and Palmer Rivers.
The Barrington and Palmer Rivers have been closed to fishing for a couple of decades. Find out tonight if anyone will ever be able to fish in them again.
Barrington/Warren Rep. Jan Malik has scheduled a 7 pm meeting in the Barrington library that is expected to provide some answers to the future of the two rivers as fishing holes.
“Several of my constituents asked me recently about the condition of the rivers, which have been closed to fishing for at least 20 years,” said Malik. “I decided to let DEM (Department of Environmental Management) explain what they are doing.”

“I expect the DEM to tell us what’s going on, what’s happening,” he said. “You used to be able to get oysters out of the Palmer River. But not for a long time.”

The rivers have been closed because of polluted runoff, believed to be coming from farms and other properties in Massachusetts.
