What's Up With Local Rivers?
Rep. Jan Malik has scheduled a meeting with DEM officials to bring everyone up to date on the possible reopening of the Barrington and Palmer Rivers to fishing.
What’s going on with the Barrington and Palmer Rivers? Will anyone ever be able to fish in them again?
“Several of my constituents asked me recently about the condition of the rivers, which have been closed to fishing for at least 20 years,” Rep. Jan Malik of Barrington and Warren said. “I decided to let DEM (Department of Environmental Management) explain what they are doing.”
Malik has scheduled a meeting in the Barrington library on Thursday evening, May 3. Go the conference room on the second floor. It start at 7 pm.

“I expect the DEM to tell us what’s going on, what’s happening,” he said. “You used to be able to get oysters out of the Palmer River. But not for a long time.”
The rivers were closed because of pollution, believed to be coming from properties in Massachusetts.
