Boys/Girls State program a No Show for Patch
Patch ignored a wonderful program that teaches young people about our democratic system.

I am a representative of the American Legion Boys State program, which was just recently held at Roger Williams University last week. It is a program for high school students entering their senior year and provides the study of our democratic system.
I contacted the Patch and advised them of this program and requested coverage, of the entire week. The Patch was a no show. Excuses follow, as there was a budget meeting to attend along with others. What ails me, there were 75 students from all over Rhode Island learning and participating in the legislatitve process, writing bills, and listening to our elected officials.
Of the 75 students, two boys and two girls who were elected by their class are now heading to Washington, DC, this July to attend the American Legions national program. These four students are representing Rhode Island and should be reconized for their hard work. I lost some respect for the Patch, because it seems they're most interested in how many people were busted for DUI or drug possesion that week, or another routine house fire, but a real learning experience that is offered did not warrant a reporter or a photographer to capture these students and their hard work.
