More Road Congestion on Metacom Avenue

Road congestion will probably increase after gas station opens, making Metacom Avenue more dangerous to pedestrians.

This letter is in response to the article that Stop & Stop has the go ahead to build its gas station on Metacom Ave. As I am writing, the scanner is going off dispatching fire and police to another auto accident at Laurel Lane and Metacom, what has become a constant reminder of the congestion on Metacom Ave. As several residents in this area raised the concerns to this and other environmental issues, our town officials have ignored us and granted the ok to build.

I as a disabled person have requested the intersection of Job Lot and Metacom Ave be upgrade to have a pedestrian crosswalk installed which has been in the planning stage for over 2 years now with no immediate action in the near future. Once this station is operating, I can expect an increase in congestion to an already busy section of town.

Have our officials considered how traffic will flow from side streets like Homestead Ave, Parker Ave? Will our officials consider putting a traffic light at Homestead Ave? I have been advocating for some action that pertains to the dilapidated condition of this major roadway and really am getting tired of it, as our request falls on deaf ears of public officials that are elected to serve us. Senator Felag was involved in an accident at Homestead and Metacom Ave not to long ago, and I would think that he would be onboard to push for changes. I guess it will take a person to lose his/her life before our officials will act and take responsibility.
