RI Independence Day is May 4th

Town of Warren municipality has RI "holiday" off with pay while several issues are pending including road, sidewalk and Water Authority problems.

May 4th is RI Independence Day. The town of Warren's municipal offices are closed this Wednesday due to this so-called holiday.  Municipal workers are being paid for a day off, yet when if asked, most people would not be able to tell you what May 4th is relevant to!

Our government keeps cutting services to save the budget, but here is a classic example of government waste. The taxpayers lose out on performing municipal business due to a contractual day off.  The town of Bristol used to have that day off but changed it in their last contract for the day before the 4th of July. The town of Barrington no longer has that day as a holiday either. So it seems the taxpayers of Warren need to ask the question as to why is Warren still taking a day off at the taxpayers expense?

This day is no longer associated as a legal holiday even though it is part of the laws of RI, and most schools do not even teach the importance of it in US History Class.
