New Bar is 'Not Your Average Joe's'

A Warren auto shop owner hops into the bar business with a new Child Street venue.

There’s a new bar in town, and it’s not your average Joe’s sports bar. Literally, that’s the name of Warren’s newest pub, Not Your Average Joe’s.

“I wanted to open up a sports bar for people like me and my friends,” says first time bar owner, Joey Rego. “I came up with the name because, well, it’s my name, but it’s really not just your average Joe’s bar. I want to make it something cool and fun.”

Rego, 37, of Warren, purchased the former home of Restaurant 103, located on Child Street, and has transformed it into an inviting sports bar full of flat screen televisions, a pool table, a dining area and a venue for live bands. The bar has been living in a soft opening phase for about a month, but the grand opening should be sometime in August.

“I’m new to this,” Rego says, “so I’m taking my time getting a feel for things before our big launch.”

Though Rego is new to the bar and restaurant scene, this is not his first local business undertaking. Rego also owns and runs Rego's Auto House on Metacom Avenue.

“Now I know what it’s like to do 120-hour work weeks,” he laughed.

Rego said this business venture has opened a new chapter in his life.

“It’s like, do I really want to be fixing cars 20 years from now? I just don’t know that I want to be doing oil changes for the rest of my life,” Rego said.

Not Your Average Joe's has a full liquor license and serves traditional pub-style food. The bar will host Karaoke on Thursdays and live bands on Fridays. Rego also notes that they will also begin to form pool leagues, and anyone interested can stop by during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Warren pub should not be confused with a bakery/restaurant chain by the same name that has more than a dozen Massachusetts locations, including one coming soon to Seekonk.
