Bristol’s Stone Church Coffee House at the First Congregational Church welcomes Railroad House on Saturday, April 25th.
Railroad House is a six piece band featuring lush 2, 3, and 4 part vocal harmony and playing a diverse blend of Americana music, from straight ahead Bluegrass to Western Swing, and beyond! Railroad House is based in the Metro-west Boston area of Massachusetts.
Railroad House songs have a sense of dynamics. They save their beautiful harmonies for choruses or key emotional points in the songs. Rhythm guitarist Rich Piccaretto and mandolinist Jonathan Campbell trade off lead vocals, and Campbell, and fiddler Larry DeJong especially distinguish themselves on breaks, with DeJong throwing in deft tremolos and Campbell moving easily between blues licks, classic bluegrass breaks, and even bossa nova. Bass player Mike Foster provides high energy and bass lines. Randy Batson, on lead guitar, and Charlie Downey, switching between banjo and Dobro, round out the sextet.
They play a sprinkling of instrumental numbers in a set, but vocal-driven tunes are where this band shines, whether plucking a couple tunes from Steve Earle‘s “The Mountain“, serving up a standard like “Blue Ridge Mountain Home” or adapting a country tune like “Rough Around the Edges”. All in all, Railroad House will keep you entertained with great music and a fantastic stage presence.

In 2013, they recorded their CD “Junction” . On “Junction” Railroad House recorded a dozen songs that reflect an American blend. Besides some original songs, you will find a few Bluegrass tunes in the mix that many may recognize as old standards, but also included are renditions from other parts of the American spectrum, including songs from Bob Willis, Robert Earl Keen and Gram Parsons.
