Avenue A Dazzles Audience at Paine Field

Avenue A kicked off Coventry's Summer Concert Series with a performance on July 10.

Paine Field played host to Sunday's performance by the swing and jazz band Avenue A as it kicked off Coventry’s Summer Concert Series. Band members Philip Mullen, Karen Mellor, Diane Gualtieri, and Dick Parent delighted the audience with a variety of tunes including classics like “When the Saints Go Marching In” and Ray Charles’s “Hallelujah I Love Her So.”

Avenue A was founded in 1984 by Gualtieri, Mellor, and now-retired member Don Blais when they teamed up to perform at a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. With the addition of Mullen in 1988 and Parent in 2000, the band is now complete.

If you enjoyed Avenue A’s performance and want to see them again or weren’t lucky enough to catch last Sunday’s performance, you can see the band again next at Easton’s First Beach in Newport Tuesday evening, July 12, at 6 p.m. For more information on the band, how to reach its members, and information on booking can be found at www.avenueamusic.com.
