Coventry Becomes First In State to Receive Hazard Mitigation Grants
The town was awarded all five of the grants that it applied for.

After recieving $76,064 in June through a hazard mitigation grant, one of five that was applied for, Coventry has been awarded funding for all five grant applications, totalling $530,161.
Coventry is now the first town in the state to be awarded the grants that will pay for five flood mitigation projects. The projects will assist in flood prevention during heavy rains by upgrading drainage systems, according to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA). The grants were applied for after last year's historic flooding.
The grants are part of $11 million given to the state by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after the March 2010 floods.
