FLIPPING BURGERS

History is history in my opinion whether one learned it at CCRI or Brown University. JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963.  One could gain that knowledge at CCRI just as easily as Brown. I am surprised that John Depetro, a WPRO talk show host, has never been physically attacked by certain of his callers due to things he has said to them. There are  figures of speech we have all used in conversation that are demeaning to certain people whether we do it intentionally  or unthinkingly. There is nothing wrong with working in the fast food industry. It is an honest way to make a living and is far more admirable than rolling over and joining the Welfare rolls. Yet how many times have we heard something along the lines of .........."do you want to spend the rest of your life flipping burgers?" That to me is as offense to a fast food worker as calling a black person a nig#%r. Now back to Mr. Depetro. He had a caller the other day that claimed to be a college professor. Because Mr. Depetro doubted the callers claim he very demeaning tone retorted...."yeah, where at CCRI." To me that is highly offensive to both students and faculty of that institution. Although I guess it is, my point is not so much to attack Mr. Depetro, but to bring to light certain things that we say, that although are not meant to be offensive, in fact are.
