Legislation Requiring Review of New and Existing Regulations Heard in Small Business Committee
Coventry Rep. Patricia Morgan supports the legislation that would lessen the burden on job creators.

The House Committee on Small Business took one piece of the Republican Pro-Growth Agenda into consideration on Wednesday at the Rise of the House.
This legislation (2011-H7770) would require a review, consisting of a cost/benefit analysis, of all new and existing regulations. If the cost of complying with the rule outweighs its benefit to our state, the regulation would be suspended unless the legislature acts to reinstate it within one year. The purpose of this legislation is to eliminate unnecessary burdens on job creators so they can aim their resources at growing their business and hiring workers.

“Business people in the private sector perform cost/benefit analyses every day. It’s how they make good decisions for the health of their companies. Our bureaucrats need to start subjecting rules and regulations to the same analysis and scrutiny. It’s long overdue and will help us become a healthy and productive state going forward,” said Representative Patricia L. Morgan (R-Dist. 26 West Warwick, Warwick, Coventry).
“Ultimately, I want families to be successful. I want to create an environment where businesses can hire moms and dads so they can support their children. I want Rhode Island to be a place where graduates can find good jobs and make good lives for themselves," she said.
