Officials Cancel First Day of School as Precautionary Measure

Road clearing and shelter activities may still be active Monday morning.

On Friday afternoon, Town Council President Gary Cote along with Police Chief and Director of Emergency Operations Bryan Volpe made the decision to cancel school on Monday, August 29 as a precautionary measure.

"We can expect to experience some high winds and heavy rain and we need to give town employees the chance to clean up after the storm," said Cote. "It would be much safer to not have buses on the road at six a.m. while the roads are being cleared."

Cote also confirmed that the Red Cross will be setting up an emergency shelter at that will open at 12 p.m. on Saturday. It is possible that there may still be residents in the shelter on Monday morning, also making it difficult to hold classes. An official release about the shelter is expected later this afternoon.
